Plan to explore this area of a spectacular volcanic shield, with lava flows, cineritic cones, and impressive giant Maar type craters.
Thursday 4/11: The adventure begins!!
San Diego to Yuma 170 miles / 3 hours
Meet at Denny’s in Yuma – 1435 E 16th St. at 11:00 AM (earlier if you want feeding)
I-8 to 16th St. (95) Exit, turn left, next block on right.
We will cross border at San Luis Rio Colorado, and drive to beach campsite north of Puerto Penasco 120 mi. GPS N31 29.435 / W-113 38.882
Friday 4/12: beach camp to museum 30 miles
Meet at museum on M8 Friday 9:00 am.

Museum to park entrance 16 mi.
The loop trail within the park takes us to visit El Elegante crater, El Tecolote, & Cerro Colorado crater, with some hiking. Then drive to western side of the range to explore and find campsite.
Sat / Sun 4/13-14:
Continue exploring volcanic craters on the western side of the range.
Drive home Sunday afternoon.

- You MUST have a working two-meter radio in your vehicle for this trip. 147.480 simplex
- Please purchase your Mexican auto insurance before the trip
- Gas may available along the route, but not always reliable –you should bring a minimum 5-10 gallons extra.
- Most places accept $dollars. Option — stop at your bank before the trip to buy Mexican currency.
